Wardrobe Wednesday

Princess can often be found in a nightgown or pajamas. Sometimes I wonder if she'd get dressed at all, if we never left the house. I had mentioned, before we left for camping, that the Lizard King was building our deck roof.

During the build, Princess asked LK if he was going to walk on the roof. He told her that he would have to walk on it to finish it. Her eyes lit up and she asked if she could walk on the roof, too. LK promised her that as soon as the shingles were on, she could.

She did it, without hesitation, and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Oh Deer!

How did I forget?

When we arrived at the campsite and were waiting in line to check in, this is what we saw.

This was the one time I remembered to use my camera.

Garden Club Monday

We're back to regularly scheduled programming as promised! We've had lots of garden growth recently.

Apparently, zucchini are very good at hiding. Yes, the one in the back is almost as long as my counter is deep. The next one isn't much smaller. They are freakin' huge!

We are finally seeing ripe tomatoes! There are lots of green ones and I'm sure that before we know it, we'll be inundated with tomatoes. No worries! I've got all the canning supplies for whole or diced tomatoes, as well as tomato puree. I think my kitchen will be very busy soon.

And while I don't eat potatoes anymore, the Lizard King does still partake. We planted potatoes from some of our store bought potatoes and they grew! This came from one plant. We're letting the others grow longer. LK is super excited!

How is your garden growing? If you'd like to check out other gardens around the country, head on over to Aliceson's, Feet Off the Table.

Cheese!

This is the Tillamook Cheese Factory! Do you have Tillamook Cheese available near you? Their cheese is quite yummy!

I wish I had taken more photos of the shirts the employees were wearing. It was all about the loaf.

We learned a little something, too!

And of course, finished the visit with some delicious Tillamook ice cream. So gooooood!

That's all for our camping update! We will return to our regularly scheduled program on Monday. Have a beautiful weekend!!

Oregon Coast Aquarium

On Tuesday, I mentioned that we went on a couple of field trips during our camping vacation. Our first exploration was the Oregon Coast Aquarium. I wish I had captured the look on Princess' and Blue Eye Boy's faces when they first walked into this area.

Somewhere in there is a Red Pacific Octopus. The two of them searched for quite some time, trying to find it. Yes, they even got down on hands and knees to look below.

The two friends spent a great deal of time outside with the Puffins . . .

. . . and inside exploring the sea life.

At the end of our day, we headed over to the play area for some much needed play and climbing.

And the Lizard King and I were feeling quite . . . shady. ; )

Tomorrow I'll show you field trip number two!

Wardrobe Wednesday

Continuing the camping posts . . .

About three days into the camping trip, Princess needed a "lazy day". That pretty much means that she doesn't get dressed. She spent the entire day in her pajamas.

It was a good day.

Now head on over to Feet Off the Table to see what all the cool kids are wearing!

Campfire Nights

I survived camping! And I even had a good time. Who knew?! Although, by the end of the week, I was definitely ready to go home. I believe that I spent more time outside in the last week, than I have all year. The only time we were inside was to sleep and during our two "field trips" to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Tillamook Cheese Factory. I'll blog about those later this week.

I really enjoyed the nightly camp fires. The shower . . . not so much. I have issues. ; )

I did bring my camera, but I didn't take it out once. Very strange, indeed! Every photo was taken with my iPhone.

Freckles' Blue Eyed Boy

I'm not sure how I ended up without a single photo of Freckles. Weird!

We will definitely camp again . . . next year.

Gone Camping

The Lizard King has not had a day off in over a month. You'd think he would be used to it after spending a year in Afghanistan with no days off, but Afghanistan is a different mind set, you might say. He finally had his first day off on Friday, the start of his vacation.

We leave for our camping trip tomorrow. There are lots of things to do to prepare. Princess eats gluten free bread, so I'm baking 3 loaves to take with us. I also steamed and pureed a bunch of kale from the garden. I add this to our burgers for some extra nutritional punch (and you can't even taste it). Then I pre-made burgers and froze them to cook while camping.

We bought a whole set of unseasoned cast iron pans (for the bargain price of $66 at Camping World). I spent the last couple of weeks seasoning them, using this process. They turned out beautifully!!

Today, I'll brown some ground beef for chili to be made while camping and there are lots of other preparations.

Tomorrow, we drop the Royal Dog off at Patty's Precious Pets. We found a woman who boards only small dogs in her home. I so wish we could take the pup with us, but at the moment, dogs aren't allowed to stay in the yurts. I've heard that will change next year.

After drop off, we'll finish packing up everything (hopefully) that we need to take.

With all that in mind, what do you think the Lizard King has been doing for the last two days (his first two days off)?  --- Why, building a roof for the deck, of course! I swear, the man never stops!! I will post pics after we come back.

In the meantime, have a wonderful week. See you all when we get back!

Camouflage

We have been living in our house for a little over a year. After renting for so long and not being able to paint, we really want to add some color to our home. We're beginning with the kitchen/dining area and the guest room. One of the challenges is finding a color that we all like. Yes, we have agreed that we all have an equal vote and it has to be unanimous.

We decided on green for the kitchen, so we bought some samples to try out. We started with the lightest color (bottom left), but I wasn't so sure about it. We tried the darkest color (middle right), but I thought it was too yellow and too dark, LK didn't like it and Princess hated it. We tried the top color and the little patch below, but thought it was too blue, LK didn't like it and Princess hated it. We then all agreed on the lightest color. Days went by and after thinking about it, I really don't like any of the colors.

Honestly, we all wanted red. We're only painting around the cabinets and one wall in the eating nook with this color. So now we're thinking about that for a while. Of course, the samples will begin again. The rest will be neutral. And no, we haven't chosen that color yet either.

Why the hesitation? Well, the last house we owned, we went all out with color in the house. And while at the time we loved it, it was really bold. I'm not sure that I want that again. I thought I was over my fear of color, but I think it's still here. *sigh*

I can't wait to see what happens next!

What colors do you have in your house? I'd love to hear your color choices!! Please share!!

LY

A note and a gift from Princess. She has begun putting lines between words to separate them.

Isn't she the most awesome kid?!?!
