Spelling

We don't do spelling lessons. We don't have word lists. We don't have spelling quizzes. We're unschoolers, so we do things a little differently. We live our lives and, just like math, spelling happens. Princess sees words everywhere. She enters data into computer games and iPad games. She writes notes and stories. Spelling happens all the time.

A couple of years ago, Princess decided to participate in The Great American Spell Check, a fund raiser. The proceeds go to Village Home, our homeschool resource center and a place very dear to Princess. She has a list of words to spell and needs people to sponsor her. Sponsors can pledge a flat fee or pledge per word. The Lizard King and I have pledged a flat fee. Would you like to make a pledge? Princess would love it! And it would go to a good cause. You can leave a comment below or email me at shadylady @ maintcc . com. If you'd rather not make a pledge that's fine. Princess will take well wishes, too. :)

Thanks for your support!

Bowling Firsts

Okay, I really need to start carrying my camera everywhere. Yes, the best camera is the one you have in your hand, but the iPhone can only do so much. And it's not so great with the action shots. Or maybe it's just me?

At any rate, the Lizard King was in for the weekend. Yay! Bowling is something we all have fun doing. This time included quite a few firsts for Princess. She bowled without a ramp for the first time. She got her first spare. And for the first time, Princess won! She always beats me. But generally the Lizard King wins . . . by a lot. This time, his right arm was bothering him so much, he had to bowl left-handed.

The final score:
Shady Lady 41
Lizard King 63
Princess 70!

That's about normal for me . . . I am queen of the gutter ball! LK was definitely impaired - a lot - by the use of his left arm. Princess was in her glory.

We're already talking about going again soon! What things does your family enjoy doing?

Welcoming 2012

Princess made a sign . . .

. . . and reached her goal of saving $600! She used $500 to buy an iPad, leaving $100 in her savings account. She plans to build her savings up again, and to keep on saving. What a great start to the new year for Princess!!

And earlier this month, we welcomed a new grandbaby to the family! Isn't he beautiful?!?!

Happy New Year family and friends!!
