LiG Fun!

The highlight for us of the LIFE is Good Unschooling Conference was the talent show. Princess was inspired to dance . . .
. . . and perform a comedic puppet show, featuring a tiger and a pig.
I think standup comedy may be in her future.

LIFE is Good!

It's here! It's here! The LIFE is Good Unschooling Conference in Vancouver, Washington starts today. All three of us are going this year. Yes, even the Lizard King is joining us. Check out the amazing schedule of events. There are so many things to do! Presentations and Circle Chats for LK and me and TONS of Funshops for Princess.
This year, we are staying in the hotel so we don't have to commute back and forth. And this way, we can totally immerse ourselves in the experience (while being able to get away to our room when we need some down time).

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!!

Sonic Spelling

I've mentioned before that, as unschoolers, we don't do lessons. Not doing lessons doesn't mean not learning. Princess found "Amazing Sonic Scene Creator", in many versions, online for free. She spent a good part of the day yesterday working on it.
As you can see there is a lot of spelling involved and typing, too. There were some words that Princess didn't know how to spell and figured out or asked me. I'm certain that she is learning countless other things, as well, while working on this.
And of course, lots of imagination and fun. Is there any better way to learn?

Knights, Castles and Dragons

Knights, Castles and Dragons is one of the classes that Princess chose to take this year at Village Home. We have three terms, so the kids get a full 10 weeks to explore each item: term 1, knights; term 2, castles; and now in term 3, dragons. Classes meet weekly for one hour. In the last class they made dragons out of clay. Princess' dragon doesn't breathe fire, it breathes hearts! :)

Medieval Festival

Princess and I went to our very first medieval festival a couple of weeks ago. There were lots of things to see and do. Next time, we both plan to buy one of the beautiful capes they had for sale. After all, we should look a bit more medieval, don't you think? :)

Princess spent quite some time climbing over the rocks in the pond.
Archery has become a new favorite. We want to buy Princess a bow and arrow set. I searched Amazon (gotta love Amazon Prime!) and found a great starter set.

We bought foam swords for sword fighting. The Lizard King was happy to fight when we got home.
We had such a good time and will definitely go again next year!!

WOD

WOD = workout of the day

I've changed things up with my workouts. My good friend and crossfit coach started facilitating a class for adults at Village Home. It took me a while, but I finally got on board, switching my weekly workout from home to Village and from a super slow lift style to a crossfit style. Princess likes these workouts because she gets to hang out longer and play while I work out.

Deck of Death is one of my favorite workouts. You shuffle a regular card deck, flip a card at a time and work your way through the deck. It is intense!

Tabata is 8 rounds of 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest. Do as many as you can the first round and try to maintain that number (without going over) for the following 7 rounds. It's hard. Then the WOD, which was pretty easy.

I wonder what today's WOD will be . . .

Princess

Look who slept in her own room, all by herself!

She is so proud. :) Unfortunately, Princess woke up at 7am after going to bed at midnight. That's not quite enough sleep. She asked for a clock in her room, the one thing we didn't think of. She said that with the clock, she will go back to sleep if it's too early. Smart girl!

Fit for a Princess

Guess what we did Mother's Day morning . . .

Princess hasn't had a room fit for a Princess since she was 1. Way back then, the Lizard King and I decorated her "nursery". . . a room she never slept in. From the start, we co-slept. I still regret investing in the crib instead of the glider rocker. I really would have loved the glider rocker. The crib did look pretty though.

Anyway, we sold our home in Georgia and Princess' room along with it. In all of our rentals, Princess hasn't had her own room. It just wasn't necessary, because she still sleeps with us. When we bought our house, we knew that Princess would eventually need a room of her own.

Every once in a while she talks about maybe sleeping in her room. She's had a sleepover in it, but hasn't slept on her own. The Lizard King and I decided it was time to give her a room that she will love. I asked Princess if she would let us decorate it and make it a surprise for her. She thought that was a fabulous idea. Her only request was that she help with the painting.

LK found the paint on the return shelf at Depot. What a find!

Here is after painting, but before decorating . . .

. . . and the reveal.

Princess' name is in white wooden letters behind the PRINCESS.

This flower is for measuring how tall Princess grows.

I think she loves it! And it might be time to schedule another sleepover.

Happy Mother's Day!

For Mother's Day . . . Princess made me lunch. Tuna, pickled eggs, pickled beets, and pickles. I kind of wish I had made some mayo yesterday, but Princess made it with love, so it was delicious!

This is the baby cherry blossom tree that the Lizard King planted for me this morning. It doesn't look like much now, but I'm sure it will be beautiful before we know it!

I hope you all have an amazing day!

What the . . . ? ? ?

The Lizard King and I laughed out loud when we saw this . . .

Just thought I'd leave you all with that thought for the weekend.
Enjoy! ;)

On a Cloudy Oregon Day

The Lizard King took Princess mini golfing.

He even remembered to take pictures! Gotta love daddy/daughter days.

Recycled Wrap

I am always looking for ways to reduce, reuse, recycle. We've got a bit of packaging paper around the house, as well as random ribbons. Princess is always willing to do some decorating. With this awesome combo, we have homemade wrapping paper . . . all tied up in a lovely bow.

We've also used scraps of fabric or made fabric gift bags and wrap that we use each Hanukka! Have you tried any creative ways of wrapping your gifts? Tell me about it below!

How Royalty Dresses for a Game of Checkers

Princess and I went through her dress up stuff in order to weed out the things that no longer fit. Now that her niece is getting older, she's 2, we can pass them along to her. After trying things on, she decided to spend the day in her wedding dress. It's a good thing, too . . . after all, it is important to dress for a game of checkers.

Yes. She kicked my butt. Maybe I should wear the wedding dress next time.
