Burst of Reading

I am a lover of books. I often wish there were more hours in the day so that I could spend more time reading. Princess asked me, a couple of weeks ago, if I thought she was weird because she doesn't like to read.  I assured her that I didn't think she was weird. There are all different kinds of people in the world; some love to read and some don't. It's all good!

Of course, Princess reads all the time, just not books.

Yesterday she picked up a book, a graphic novel to be specific, and read it. Today she is reading again. So yes, we are having a sudden burst of book reading.

Are you and your kids reading anything good?

  1. My daughter started reading before bed by herself a couple months ago. She will read for an hour if I let her. It makes my heart happy.

    1. Very nice, Secret Mom. When I was a kid, that was my favorite time to read, too!

  2. My son still struggles with reading independently, but likes being read to. He enjoys the Series of Unfortunate Events series and Magic Tree House. My daughter would read all day if she could. Recently she's read Hunger Games, The Lightening Thief series. She likes being read to occasionally still, so I'm reading The Hobbit to both of them.

    1. I guess all kids are different . . . even in the same family. Being read to is fun! I love the selection of books your kids are reading. :)

  3. My daughter LOVES to read and has been reading adult fiction - Sherlock Holmes is her favourite - since we started homeschooling. Before that, she enjoyed reading but was more into comic books. I'd bet my last nickel that Princess does A LOT of reading for her on-line games etc, that counts too. :D

Oh, Mike...I just finished reading The Hobbit for the third time (to myself - my kids weren't interested) a couple of weeks ago...so looking forward to the movie.

    1. I always loved mysteries, even as a kid. Perhaps I'll have to check out some Sherlock Holmes! And you'd win your bet, Sheri. Princess does do A LOT of reading in everything she plays. Oh...and The Hobbit -- I've never read it. Maybe I need to check that out, too. Maybe Princess will even let me read it to her. :)

  4. The Hobbit is a great story full of adventure, colourful characters and some really poignant thoughts about society. My favourite quote is, "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." - Thorin Oakenshield. I highly recommend it.

    1. That quote totally rocks, Sheri!! LOVE IT!! I think I may have to pull that one off the bookshelf. Yes, we actually have the book, but it's never been opened! *gasp*
