We harvested our first . . . carrot? Well, it's supposed to be a carrot. It tasted like a carrot and it was very good, even if it was very small . . . and weird.
We also harvested the first of our summer squash. Three BIG zucchini.

Last year we had carrots in our garden and they were JUST about ripe. I thought one more day and they will be really ready to harvest... the next morning we went outside to harvest them only to find every single one of them eaten. the tops and greens were sitting in a pile, almost neatly, and the bottoms were just gone. I imagine a Raccoon had a lovely midnight snack and as his thanks for my lovely meal he left such a nice neat pile.

ReplyDeleteHoly Zukes batman! Those are huge. We so far have gotten one medium zuchinni - small in comparison to yours. Tee hee on the carrot - too funny.

Awww maaan, Crystal! How disappointing! But at least it was a neat pile of scraps. I didn't know that racoons (or any animals) could be that tidy. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteYay for tomatoes, Secret Mom! Our tomatoes are still tiny and very green. We're hoping for a lot so we can can them. Yummy puree and whole tomatoes for tons of recipes all winter long!
Sheri, I was amazed when I found them. We ended up picking more two days later, as well as some yellow squash. I have a feeling we're going to be overwhelmed with zucchini!
Holy crap! And as for those carrots, that happened to me a couple yrs ago. Some had 3-4 roots all intertwined, lol. Makes for good dinner conversation! lol
ReplyDeleteWow, Sheila! Your carrots sound even more interesting than mine. I can't wait to see what we pull up next. There are two that are starting to pop out. Princess told me that when they do that, it's time to harvest. She learned it somewhere. The things she knows amaze me!
ReplyDeleteWow, zucchinis already? Mine are still pretty little but zucchinis are funny like that, one day they'll be all little and cute, and darn near overnight they grow to the size of a baseball bat! So, what are you going to make with them?
ReplyDeleteI thought with you all having warmer weather out your way, you'd have everything before me, Aliceson. What to do with the zucchini . . . excellent question! I've already given some to my sister, I'll puree some for Princess' bread and it looks like we're going to be eating a lot of zucchini. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYeah we had no idea that animals could be neat either but I had checked the garden the night before around dusk and they were growing just fine and dandy, next morning around 6am they were gone. Nothing but an animal could have gotten in there so That's what I have to imagine happened. LOL
