Monday Garden Club on Tuesday!

That's legal, right? It's time to check in on the garden happenings around the country. Thanks to our Monday Garden Club sponsor, Aliceson at Feet Off the Table!

First off, I'm looking for a little garden guidance from all you experts out there. Something strange is happening to my zucchini, yellow squash and cucumbers. What the heck is this?!?!

Almost every stem looks like that. What is it and how to I stop it? Help! Please! Everything else in the garden looks normal.

On a happier note, look what I found here! I love strawberries! We bought 4 different kinds of starts this year. I know we may not get a lot this year, but maybe next year? Yum!!

Now head on over to Aliceson's to see what's happening in gardens everywhere!

  1. They will live. You should take soil and mound it up to the first stem on all of the plants. That will keep them from twisting/bending in wind and as the tops get heavy and will help the broken stems uptake water still. :)

  2. I'll try that, Denise. Thank you! It's just so weird, isn't it?

  3. Id say it almost looks like they are getting to much water. That same thing happened to my aloe vera plant that I had someone (my husband) kept watering it everyday and pretty much drowned it. But I have never seen anything in the garden do that.

  4. I agree with the too much water. Last year I lost every single plant -- the garden store guy said they 'drowned'. ;o(

I didn't even get started this year yet. UGH

  5. Well, we were getting A LOT of rain. The Columbia River is at flood stage. Hopefully things will dry out and they'll recover. In the meantime, I'm going to mound up the dirt to protect them.

Thanks for the input Crystal and Sheila!!!

  6. Hope the plants make it. Strawberries will be good.

  7. I'm glad you got more expert opinions because I wouldn't have the first clue. We've got our first ever zucchini plant just starting to sprout and I've never seen that on my cucumbers.

Good luck with the plants. I'm a little worried about our gardens if this heatwave keeps up. Hopefully it will be short lived.
