Project 2011 - Week 5

Time for an update! If you'd like to join us for Project 2011, click the button to the left for details.

This week I completed my pillow! Princess loves it so much she is sleeping with it every night. Not sleeping on it, she actually cuddles it in bed. So cute!

I need to buy some fabric for my next project. I think I'm going to make a bag of some sort next . . . unless I get brave enough to make a nightgown for Princess.

I also did my Slow Burn workout and yes, I still love it!! I most especially love that I only have to do it once a week. I'm seeing progress! Last week I barely did 2, very poor form, knee push ups. This week I did 4 strong ones. Now you may think that 2 poor or 4 strong pushups aren't that big of a deal. The thing with the Slow Burn workout . . . you take at least 10 seconds to go up and 10 seconds to go down. That's how you do all the exercises. It's not easy. Try it!

I have also been trying to understand more about how my camera works. I've been learning about ISO and shutter speed. I'm not completely sure that I thoroughly understand the difference (okay, I don't really), but I'm working on it. I worked with shutter speed indoors this week on the camera. I kept my ISO at 800 and changed the shutter speed, which is indicated below each photo. It is really interesting to see the photos changes. These are totally unedited.

1/125
1/250
1/500

Do you see the difference? I do!

Now head on over to Cate's to see what else is happening with Project 2011!

  1. I believe it about the slow burn! Most people rush through situps, pushups, crunches, etc, bc if you do them super-slow (and carefully, with the right posture), they are WAY more effective.

I interviewed someone once who had a BLACK BELT in Karate before he switched to Tai Chi and he said he found it brutally hard at first.

    Keep it up! :-)))

  2. Agreed, Jennifer! Momentum definitely makes each movement easier. Remove momentum and it's a whole different ballgame. And now you've got me interested in finding out more about Tai Chi!!

  3. Isn't it amazing when they LOVE something you MADE for them? Congrats!

And I don't have the slightest clue about shutter speeds and ISO but those are some really cute pics of the dog. I do notice though that first seems to be slightly more yellow than the rest.

You don't have to convince me either about the Slow Burn workout not being easy...I mean really, the name says it all. Owie.

Sounds like you've had a great week. Good for you. :D

  4. Wow - you are just powering along on all fronts! One minute you are saying you've got a camera - and the next, you are diving into manual mode already!

Love the pillow - and love the fact that Princess loves it even more :-)

Also - thanks for the great comment on homeschooling. I'm so over the moon about my daughter's achievement as it vindicates our choice to homeschool in a way that most people can understand.

(Kind of like saying "nah nah" - without being seen as rude hehe)

  5. Sheri, if I ever really figure out the difference between shutter speed and ISO I'll be sure to tell the world. ;-P

Slow Burn is tough, but OMG! I so love it! Once a week is my speed.

Cate, I am determined to learn to be a better photographer. I don't think I want to actually "do" anything with it other than take better pictures.

And I love saying "nah nah" . . . and you have every right to do so. Your daughter rocks!

  8. Thanks, makitgiveit! She is a beauty, isn't she . . . not that I'm partial or anything. ;-) The weird thing with the exercise, I actually think about doing more than one workout a week. The most you are to do it is twice a week with 4 days in between (I think). That just doesn't work with our crazy schedule. Mondays it is!

Aren't those colors fun, Jessica! I am so glad that I didn't have enough fabric to do both sides the same. I think it gives it a fun, funky feel. I have to find time to get to the fabric store. I really want to start another project!! The photography piece could keep me busy 24/7. Again, I need more time!!
