This unschooling life takes quite a leap of faith. I believe in this life with all my heart. Still, it's nice to get those little reminders that this really does work beautifully.
Princess was playing a clothing designer app game on her iPod. Designing her own fashions is one of her passions. She wanted to do a male outfit and told the Lizard King. Always the jokester, he responded, saying something about a mailman outfit. Princess said, "No Daddy! I mean male - m.a.l.e, not mail m.a.i.l." (insert Princess' eye roll here)
No, we don't do spelling lessons.
And today, inspired by my best friend, Freckles, Princess decided to start writing a book of her own. She's written a few lines, and I have to say that I like her ideas. Pretty cool stuff!
We don't make her write, either.
She does these things out of the sheer desire to do them. She learns things from the desire to learn.
I like the view from this side. Being able to live life with my daughter, every single day, is amazing. It may be a leap of faith, but I love that I get to jump off the coolest cliff ever.
Beautiful! Those are my favorite things too. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful way of life, isn't it, Denise. :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful when they just know things and you can say no I didn't teach them that they learned it! :)
ReplyDeleteThose reminders are so important, they show that you are going the right way:)
ReplyDeleteCrystal, sometimes LK and I just look at each other and wonder how she knows the things she knows. It is amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are important, Jessica. Even though I know we're on the right path, I can continue with even more confidence. :)
I hear you tell these stories and wish that I had my time over with the kids again Shady. Enjoy your cliff jumping!
ReplyDeleteI had a few of those moments this week myself :). It feels amazing to be validated, especially when you are doing something so controversial.
ReplyDeleteThe way school systems are going, home and un schooling may just be the norm one day! Beautiful photograph by the way, that's realllly lovely!
ReplyDeleteCate, I sit and think how quickly time passes and treasure the time I have with Princess. Still, no matter what I do, time keeps flying by.
ReplyDeleteBFM, it is quite amazing, isn't it?! So glad you had some moments this week as well. They so rock!
Awww, thanks Sheila!! I'm glad you like the photo. :) The school systems are a mess and seem to be getting worse. I don't know if it will be the norm, but I hope there will be a lot more of us. It will benefit children and society so much!
It may be a leap of faith, but I love that I get to jump off the coolest cliff ever. -- I so love that. What a neat way to put it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bernie! :-)
ReplyDeleteHehe, sounds so much like my last post on unschooling. It is an amazing way of life and after four years now, I can't imagine living any other way. :D
ReplyDeleteHey Sheri, we've been unschooling for the same length of time! How about that?! Unschooling Rocks!
