I learned to crochet when I was a kid, but I was never very good at it. A couple years ago, I taught myself to knit. I find knitting much easier. I started with scarves, then moved on to hats. My next project was my biggest challenge . . . socks. I figured I'd better start small and I knitted a sock for Princess, then me. I asked the Lizard King if he wanted a pair for himself. He did and wanted something totally off the wall. He asked and he got.
As for Princess, she has gotten a lot of socks. The only problem is that she keeps outgrowing them.
Head on over to our WW sponsor, Aliceson at Feet Off the Table, to see what all the cool kids are wearing!
We're all mad!!! :-) I hate the second socks. I really do. The first socks are always fun, because the yarn pattern is still new. The second sock is downright boring to me. Maybe I should make one sock of everything and then just wear non-matching socks!
ReplyDeleteFreckles, you are brilliant!!! We could find coordinating yarn and make one sock from each. Or just go really crazy and just knit single socks, throw them all in a drawer, and each day just close our eyes and pick. I don't know that Princess would go for it, though.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you made those? Beautiful! I've crocheted a few things (during pregnancy nesting :o), but I don't think I have the patience for knitting. I think I'll just stick to my smartwool socks that come, you know, already knitted.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to link up to WW. My post is finally up.
Aliceson, a couple years ago I was determined to learn how to knit. You can only knit so many scarves and hats before it gets tedious. I really thought I would only knit a couple pairs of socks and be done. And I never thought I'd wear them out of the house...after all, they're not "real" socks. OMG! They are so much better. Hmmm...you just gave me an idea!
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome socks. You make me want to learn to knit.
ReplyDeleteI love those!
ReplyDeleteSMT, you totally can do it! If you're really interested I can post some links for videos. That's how I learned.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mama Zen! And thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. :-)
WOW! I'm impressed! When I think of knit socks, I think of the crocheted booties my grandma used to make me. Your socks actually look like sock-socks! VERy nice job!!
ReplyDeleteI learned to knit after being inspired by a pair of knitted socks my grandmother gave me. I adore knitted socks and I wear them 'til I wear them out - they're awesome for camping though they do wear out pretty fast out in the woods.
ReplyDeleteMy goal has always been to learn to knit socks, but I still haven't tried. Can you recommend some patterns for me?
Hopefully, I'll get Daughter's Tom Baker scarf done before it costs me another year. ;)
Well thank you, Sheila! I do love to knit and socks go fairly quickly . . . especially in Princess sizes.
ReplyDeleteSo you want knit socks, Sheri? Cool! There is nothing like a knitted sock, is there. We haven't had any wear out, but then we aren't exactly campers . . . yet. ;-) The yarn I use is fingering weight from knitpicks.com. They have awesome prices and beautiful yarn. I look for the yarns that are machine washable, usually a superwash merino blend. We (Freckles, HerbiFaerie and I) use the top down pattern from "Teach Yourself Visually Sock Knitting". There are mistakes in the pattern, so if you get the book (library may have it - ours did) let me know and I'll give you the corrections.
Get working on the scarf lady! You have the perfect knitting weather. ;-P
Hehe, you're starting to sound like Daughter! You're right though, this is perfect knitting weather.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pattern recommendation. I'll look for it. Happy knitting! :D
Sheri, when you are ready to start let me know so that I can give you the corrections.
