He lied to me...

...and for that I am very grateful. For an entire year the Lizard King told me that there was never any incoming on his FOB, at least not near any people. There was never any danger. He always told me not to worry about him. He said that the enemy just had bad aim and in my naivety, I believed him.

When he received the job offer, you know the job that's 13 miles from our house, he brought this out.

This is some shrapnel from a bomb exploded 60 feet from my sweet husband and his team. The next day several contractors went home. It had become all too real.

If he hadn't gotten this job, he was going to go back to that place. I am married to the most amazing man. The sacrifices he has made for his family are incredible. I am grateful that he lied to me. I am more grateful that he is home.

  2. Kelly, I don't know that the full impact of it has hit me yet. I think part of me still doesn't want to truly accept the horrible things that happened there.

  4. Bless his heart! My hubby would have lied to me as well and I have no doubt it would make me love him all the more.

Thank goodness he doesn't have to go back.

    Hugs!

  5. These are the type of stories that you always prefer to hear about AFTER the event....

  6. Yep. He sounds like a very smart wonderful man! Every time I read one of your posts I can't help but wonder about my cousin who is over there now and how the experience will change him.

  7. Thanks for the hugs, Sheri! They are always appreciated. The more I know this man, the more I love him. :)

Cate, after is definitely better. I could not have handled it at all when he was there.

Gina, smart and wonderful begins to describe him. Everyday I feel like the luckiest woman in the world. LK doesn't feel changed and I think I'm too close to notice it, but a dear friend told me that she sees a difference.

  9. windingcircle, I can't imagine how I would have handled it had I known. I've heard the loudspeaker "INCOMING! INCOMING! INCOMING!" when LK and I were talking on Skype and he had to run for a bunker. I worried a little, but he always reassured me that he was safe. If I had known any different I don't know how I would have handled it.
