Wardrobe Wednesday

Princess can often be found in a nightgown or pajamas. Sometimes I wonder if she'd get dressed at all, if we never left the house. I had mentioned, before we left for camping, that the Lizard King was building our deck roof.

During the build, Princess asked LK if he was going to walk on the roof. He told her that he would have to walk on it to finish it. Her eyes lit up and she asked if she could walk on the roof, too. LK promised her that as soon as the shingles were on, she could.

She did it, without hesitation, and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Wardrobe Wednesday

Continuing the camping posts . . .

About three days into the camping trip, Princess needed a "lazy day". That pretty much means that she doesn't get dressed. She spent the entire day in her pajamas.

It was a good day.

Wardrobe Wednesday

The Lizard King built an awesome shed, not long after he came home from Afghanistan. Autumn and Winter set in, which is our rainy season, so painting the shed had been put off for a while. With the warm summer weather, it was finally time. Princess loves to paint, be it artistic or buildings. She also thought it was super cool to wear her daddy's t-shirt.

Wardrobe Wednesday

I've got an accessory style Wardrobe Wednesday for this week. The big basket is mine and I've had it for a few years. I'm amazed at the quality of it and the strength. Although, sometimes the basket is so heavy, it's hard to carry.

After strawberry picking, we stopped at a little store on Sauvie Island. Princess found a smaller, more colorful version of the basket and simply had to have it for her very own. Fortunately, her basket is too small to hold as much weight as mine. ;-)

I just love our mother/daughter baskets! I think they're really beautiful . . . Now head on over to Aliceson's Feet Off the Table to see what all the other cool kids are wearing!

Wardrobe Wednesday

The Lizard King's hair isn't as thick (or as red) as it used to be, so he is prone to a little sunburn on the head. He purchased this VERY stylish hat to wear when he's working outside in the yard. This weekend, Princess was playing outside in the sprinkler and decided that this hat was a necessary addition. Honestly, I think she pulls it off quite well. :-)

Isn't she just too cute?!

Wardrobe Wednesday

Summer weather has finally reached the Pacific Northwest! And with summer weather comes fabulous summer fashions. Princess is rockin' her fashionista style, all while toiling away. A true Cinderella if I ever saw one! Actually, Princess thought it was pretty fun to scrub the chairs with the soapy scrub brush.

P.S. Of course, now it has also left and we're back to cooler temps. Long sleeves and jeans for the first homeschool park day of the year. *sigh*

Wardrobe Wednesday

When Princess was very little, I wasn't so good at keeping my obsessiveness issues to myself. I guess it still may happen, but at least now I'm more aware of it. I spend so much time trying to make my feet soft and callous free, I thought that if I kept Princess from going outside without shoes, she would never have the challenge of calloused feet. Is that not the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard?! I know!!

As I embrace this radical unschooling life, I work really hard to not dump my issues on Princess. I just stopped trying to control the shoe thing. Of course, she had begun to develop her own issues and wouldn't go outside without shoes. Ugh. What did I do?

When I learned to stop interfering, I just let it go. Now Princess can often be found barefoot, exploring the backyard, running around Village Home and on warm days, she can be found just about everywhere barefoot. The other day, on our Fairy House shopping trip, she wanted to go into the store barefoot. I wasn't sure whether the store would be okay with it, so I told her to act like she had shoes on. ;-P

Does that make this "lack of Wardrobe Wednesday"?

Wardrobe Wednesday

With the big garden we've planted this year and all my excitement about Monday Gardening Club, you'd think that I loved gardening. I don't. I love eating the food that we grow. I really don't like gardening. At all. Nope. Not one bit.

My big issue? I don't like the feeling of dried mud/dirt on my hands. It sends shivers down my spine.

If it weren't for these awesome gardening gloves, I don't know if I would be able to garden at all. Yes. I'm a bit of a prissy girl. My gloves, they serve me well.

Wardrobe Wednesday

I am still a little stunned. At 46 years old, I knew that my metabolism had slowed and it would be close to impossible to lose weight easily, if at all. I accepted that and was totally okay with my size 10 (creeping up on size 12) pants.

I started eating Primal/Paleo not all that long ago. Was it January? I started living this lifestyle to be healthier. I do feel healthier. In fact, I feel great! And without even trying, the weight started coming off. I couldn't believe it.

My jeans have been getting bigger . . . and bigger. It was becoming very obvious that my jeans just didn't fit. I finally gave in and conceded to buying one pair of jeans. I hate to shop. I headed over to Kohl's and grabbed a pile of size 8 jeans. I tried on every pair and they fit . . . sort of. They were a little loose, and I knew that by the end of the day they would "give", as jeans do, and likely be too loose.

Heading back out to the piles of jeans I searched for a size 6 short. I am only 5' 3" after all.

There was one pair.

One.

I took them back to the fitting room.

I pulled them up.

I buttoned them.

I zipped them.

And they fit.

They actually fit!

Thank you, Freckles, for taking this photo for me. : )

Wardrobe Wednesday - Haircut!

The Royal Dog was way overdue for a haircut. She's got that cottony soft type of hair/fur that mats easily. And yes, I should brush her everyday but . . . well, that didn't happen.

I was waiting for the temperatures to warm up a bit before going to this style, but I got a little impatient. So . . . I'm knitting her a sweater to help keep her warm. When I told Freckles, she laughed at me. Pthththth . . .

Check out the Billy Idol lip she's got going on.

I love her tail! So fancy. :-)

Wardrobe Wednesday - Nighty Night

I wasn't sure whether to make this a Wardrobe Wednesday or a Project 2011 post. Since my original WW plan didn't work out, and I've got other ideas for Project 2011, WW wins!

You all may remember that I am learning to sew this year. I think I may have started on a little more challenging of a project than I intended. Thanks to RasJane, who came over and walked me through the sewing steps, I was able to finish Princess' nightgown a couple of weeks ago. RasJane has been sewing since she was a child and really knows what she's doing.

I believe my next projects will be much simpler . . . things like gift bags, aprons and pillows. Then maybe I'll move up to something just a little bit more challenging. I may also steer clear of the cheap patterns. It seems the more expensive ones are easier to follow.

Still, all in all, I am very pleased with the nightgown results.

And Princess was more than happy to show off her modeling moves.

The bottom line . . . Princess loves her new nightgown and I made it long enough and big enough that it will fit her for at least a couple of years.

Boots!

I have a love/hate relationship . . .

with boots.

I love the way they look and the style, but I haven't got skinny legs. And I've never, even at my adult thinnest size 6, been able to wear them. I hate that.

I walked into Famous Footwear last September and I don't know what made me try, but I did. I slipped them on, tucked in my jeans and went for the zipper. I pulled slowly, hopefully and it happened. The zipper went up! All the way up! Finally, someone designed a boot for me!

I was so ecstatic, I bought another pair in brown.

I hope these boots last forever, because I don't know that this will ever happen again!

New Princess Gear

On Monday, Princess and I went shopping.
We bought two items.

Nice, huh? And I'll tell you all about it tomorrow in my Project 2011 update.

Skulls

Princess and I have developed a love of girlie skulls. This is one of at least three shirts that she owns. Now that I think about it, why don't I have any girlie skull shirts?! That is so not fair! I'll have to be on the lookout.

Hip Hop Wardrobe Wednesday

Okay, so the photo is super grainy, but I couldn't help it. I had to crop it from a group shot since I don't have permission to post photos of the other kids. So, please forgive the poor quality. Okay, on with the post.

Princess took a Hip Hop class at Village Home this past term. On the last day of class, the kids did their performance to Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas. I so wish I could post the video publicly! They were so flippin' cute! As Freckles put it, Princess "rocked the show".  I have to agree! The kids all wore hoodies and sunglasses.

Of course, Princess was all in PINK!

No. We're not at all excited. (Now head on over to Feet Off the Table, our Wardrobe Wednesday sponsor, to see what all the cool kids are wearing.)

Two Thin Blades and a Pink Helmet

A couple weeks ago, Princess was invited to an ice skating party.

I don't skate.

The Lizard King skates. He skates well. He used to play hockey . . . back in the day. Being the awesome daddy that he is, he left work early to go skating with Princess.

Safety first! A helmet is definitely in order. The bike helmet became an ice skating helmet. I know -- it is quite shocking to learn that Princess' helmet is pink.

Princess had the best time and can't wait to go ice skating again! Now head on over to Feet of the Table to see what all the cool kids are wearing.
